With the school year coming to a close, you will be looking forward to some rest and relaxation this summer. However, it is important that children remain active and occupied, to make sure they get the most out of their summer.
This month’s blog at Little Steps Day Care looks at how you can keep your child stimulated over the summer. For more information, call us in Renhold on 01234 889518.
Outdoor Activities
Vitamin D is important. Children and adults need sunshine and fresh air to maintain a healthy body. Playing outside is one of the best things for a child’s wellbeing.
By playing outside, your child’s gross motor skills will improve, alongside exploring and satisfying their natural curiosity. In addition to this, outdoor play helps develop a stronger immune system. It also stimulates the senses.
Active Play
Active play involves movement and exercising muscles. Activities such as running, skipping and kicking a ball are a great way to stimulate your child. There are many ways to move indoors and out.
Keep Them Reading
You should use any opportunity to read with your children. Maintain a bedtime story routine or visit your local library. Books are essential to development and reading to your children maintains healthy attachment.
Reading enables your child to build vocabulary, develop listening skills and enhance creativity. It also sets the stage for all future relationships and interactions with others.
Drawing
Encouraging children to draw enhances their fine motor skills. Creativity is a valuable skill that needs to be practiced.
Stick to Regular Meal & Bed Times
The fun and excitement of summer can throw off your routines. You should try to avoid making this a regular occurrence. Hungry and tired children can become irritable, which is not fun for anybody.
When your family is at home, you should stick to a set routine for both sleep and food. Having set mealtimes prevents excessive snacking and means your child will not get overly hungry.
It is important that children still eat nutritious and well-balanced meals, and their bodies will benefit from a continued regular eating schedule.
