As an essential part of a child’s development, outdoor play can involve new and fun activities and is something we always encourage at Little Steps Day Care. Our blog looks into the benefits of outdoor play and how it offers a different and creative way to learn.
At Little Steps Day Care outdoor play is an important part of our day care and we offer a diverse range of fun outdoor activities. Our nursery is lucky to have large grounds with plenty for the children to explore and experience. This includes the surrounding nature to walks down to the local farms and fields to see the sheep, tractors and various harvesting activities.
Physical Exercise
A significant benefit of outdoor play is the physical exercise that comes with taking part. Participating in outdoor activities from sports, dance to an array of outdoor equipment can provide whole-body workouts. Such activities will help them as children develop their motor skills from an early age. Additionally, regular physical activity will prevent health problems occurring later in life.
Boosts Self-Esteem
A good mix of activities both indoors and outdoors will help to ensure every child has their own opportunity to thrive. Important in helping to improve self-esteem, outdoor play can be a great learning tool for children both emotionally and physically. Through developing their muscle strength, coordination and building confidence, this will help to improve their overall self-esteem.
Social Development
A major factor in outdoor play is the opportunities to develop friendships through interaction and play. Teamwork, creativity, sharing and imagination are often needed during outdoor play. Through developing these skills, it provides a great opportunity for social development. Allowing children to socialise in different environments will give them the chance to explore new experiences.
Encourages Independence
A great learning environment, outdoor play encourages children to develop their own creativity making them more likely to try new experiences. Through being encouraged to play and explore outside, they will gain independence through creative thinking and problem-solving.
